Lets get started

About 18 years ago, my brother asked me a rather rhetorical question after showing me pictures he took on an ancient, crappy 1.2 MPix digital camera we had and I told him anyone can do that: “Hey, why don’t you go out and take some yourself?”

So I went and they turned out…okay, interesting! He liked them, I liked the appraisal of an older brother, and I was hooked. About two years later, I used my summer job savings and bought my first DSLR - Konica Minolta. I started taking some more pictures and they were turning out pretty nicely.

As years passed, I started traveling more. About 11 years ago, a friend asked me: “Why don’t you start putting your photos online on a blog?” Solid idea, I thought. I set up a blogspot page just as I started my studies in Paris. Noble intention, but not an ideal timing - It was just when I moved to Paris to study as a freemover - that meant a lot of studying, exploring, getting to know people, partying - at the time when Facebook was cool. Who would create a blog at that time? All of the other activities took priority over developing my new online presence and the first post was the last.

This year, 2021, is a year of many changes. For me, and for society overall as everyone comes back from the pandemic with different perspective on their work, free time, healthy and unhealthy habits, relationships, life.

This time, I’m more determined than ever to continue and share the stories I experience. Whenever I travel, I’m seeking as real experience as possible - adventure and thrill, getting to know the local history, food, people, language. I try to stay away from tourist traps and beyond the superficial. I put effort into travel planning, yet stay open to all the unexpected you experience along the way. This way, I learn a lot.

The goal of this blog is two-fold:

  1. Help me remember my experiences and by sharing them publicly, force myself into documenting the stories

  2. Inspire and help others to experience similar things, provide tips on how to climb that mountain, hike a canyon or go down a river.

So if you like reading about stories or are looking for an inspiration, read on!

Yours,

Tomas
